We live in a time period when the thoughts of a distant Missionary from more than a hundred years ago might have little to no impact on us today! Nonetheless, purpose with courage; direction with hope and faith founded truly in commitment are really ageless Biblical standards that are needed by every generation ... Including ours!
In 1 Thessalonians 1: Paul the Apostle complimented this new church and these young Chistians for their "work of faith, labour of love and patience of hope in Christ Jesus ..." their Lord. Paul identified these Christlike characteristics or "Fruit of the Spirit" as reasonable, though worthy of an encouraging compliment.
Our post-modern spirit leads our society and each of us in some most confused, convoluted and complicated life pathways. "Forwards" seems to be defined by "anywhere" rather than "anywhere" being understood in terms of the will of God Who's glory, truth and righteousness establishes the meaning of "forwards."
Unless we, you and I, take stock, determine to act responsibly and return to a submission to God's Word life will simply do what it did to Israel - leave us without a memory of our purpose, directionless, and committed to Him who loved us and gave himself for us!
A Missionary's thoughts about LIFE'S directions.... and about our pastoral care for men's souls - Hebrews 13:17
