Forwards: "... to go anywhere, provided it be FORWARDS."
These were the 1843 sentiments of one of the world's greatest missionaries and one of its most visionary explorers, Dr. David Livingstone.
Forward speaks of good and normal order and sequence. It emphasises a good or right direction - onwards so as to be making progress and a way toward a successful conclusion or at least into the future. For the ship it is toward the forward part of the ship i.e. the "prowra" - bow or the prow and for the Navigator {http://marcjudie.blogspot.com/] it is one's true direction.
But which way is "forward"? This blog is dedicated to that question. Enjoy the journey!
Speaking from the most obvious logic, the danger related to answering this question is the matter of our sources! Will we accept ... Observation? Experience? Feelings? Opinion? Scientific or rather "the empirical"? Objective Research? The Anecdotal? The Subjective? In other words, 'how will we know that we know what we know?' Livingstone seemed to be well committed to his own idea of just what "forward" was ... one wonders - how did he know or discover what he believed he knew?
I'd be interested in your thoughts. Drop a note to me - let us discuss this a bit. Take a chance! If you are wrong the others reading it will get a "really good laugh" and maybe we'll find a few answers - WHO KNOWS?
